I consider myself to be somewhat of a hybrid but as an outside observer I’d say generally non-technical founders have problems understanding what is possible with technology, how long development will take and who would be the right person to implement it. They also tend to put business objectives above product and engineering which is most important in the early days of technology companies.

I think a big hurdle for a non-technical founder is understanding how to manage techs overall. In some cases owners have slight paranoia about what their technical staff are doing because they do not fully understand the knitty gritty technical details. Appointing a _trusted_ CTO or technical consultant will relieve the pressure for a non-technical founder/owner.
