Practice asking open-ended questions in conversations, and then probe further with more open ended questions. I am of the opinion that key to sales is understanding exactly what your customer is looking for, so you can provide the right product/service/solution or quickly realize that you're not a fit. The most effective way to get to the root of what your prospects are looking for is by having them explain it you, and the most effective way to have them explain to you is by having them answer open-ended questions. If you practice asking open-ended questions and further probing questions in general conversations, it will come natural to you in sales settings. For example if you're selling coffee machines to a business: You: "Prospect, tell me about your current coffee machine" 1st layer probe: "Interesting, can you elaborate on...." 2nd layer probe: "Help me understand what you mean by...." By taking this approach, you'll get an understanding of any challenges the prospect is facing, and quickly

Learn how to prioritize your time most effectively. Get a good tool to help with that. Avoid overly-complex CRM data-entry nightmares. Ask the right questions at the right time in the sales cycle (probing in early stage, then proving later, then closing at the end). Empathize. Find a good sales methodology and understand how it applies to your industry.

A salesperson must have the mentality that every "No" is one step closer to a YES! People are going to say no, but remember this one thing for me please...... "You are always one connection away from your next success, ALWAYS!" Say that statement to yourself every single time you are feeling down, afraid, or rejected. Say it every morning, before every call/meeting, and before you go to bed. It has helped me, and I know it will help you too. Mindset is everything!
