Sprouter talks…to Ethan Bloch of Flowtown

Flowtown co-founder/CEO Ethan Bloch
The latest installment in our Sprouter Talks… series is an interview with Ethan Bloch, co-founder and CEO of startup Flowtown, a company founded in 2009 by Ethan and his co-founder and CMO Dan Martell. Flowtown creates high quality web applications with personality, and focuses on e-mail and social media marketing. Their scientific explanation is that Flowtown helps businesses communicate with their customers, anywhere, everywhere, super efficiently. One of the original marketers to use IRC, Ethan founded his first business at the age of 13. Before founding Flowtown Ethan was the host of WSYK, an internet TV show which was syndicated to Revision3. See below for Ethan’s take on Flowtown, what he calls a game-changer for an early-stage startup, and how they’ve grown Flowtown’s revenue 11,000% in just 11 months.
Ethan’s top 3 tips for entrepreneurs really resonated with us, so we wanted to share them below:
- Don’t build something no one is going to use – go find customers, talk to as many people as possible who are in that space first
- Bootstrap as long as possible – especially when you’re building a web application – it can be so inexpensive these days to build
- It’s hard to be a solo founder – it’s more fun when you get to share the ups and downs of building a startup with someone else
