Sprouter launch featured in daily newspapers across Canada

As most of you probably know, Sprouter launched in public beta on Monday – it was a very exciting day for the team, and for our community of entrepreneurs. So we’re even more excited to share some of the media coverage we’ve received in the last two days. Sprouter’s CEO/Founder Sarah Prevette was featured on the front page of Monday’s Financial Post (the business section of the National Post, one of Canada’s national newspapers). The article, written by reporter Matt Hartley, talks about Sarah’s journey as an entrepreneur, from the birth and death of her startup Upinion, to how that experience gave her the idea for an online network for entrepreneurs. “I had this big failure sitting behind me and I kept wondering what could I have done differently … and it came down to the network. I didn’t have a network, I didn’t know the right people,” Prevette told Hartley. He describes Sprouter’s difference from other networks in the article – if Facebook is a place where users connect with people they already know, LinkedIn is an online rolodex and Twitter is a place to build a brand while engaging in ongoing conversations, Sprouter is designed to filter out the noise of the rest of the social-networking world to allow entrepreneurs a dedicated space to get help with what’s causing them consternation.

The article also appeared in print & online in several other CanWest daily newspapers, including the Vancouver Province, Calgary Herald, Ottawa Citizen, and Montreal Gazette; and appeared online and on Canada.com. If you haven’t read the article already check it out at the links above, and feel free to send us your comments.

It’s great to see Sprouter’s unique nature being correctly identified in the press. I was a member of Ryze and I think it was too early: people mostly used Ryze for general chitchat, crowding out the core purpose, because other social networks like Facebook hadn’t yet arrived.
